Giving "Hugs" When they are needed most.
A little over a year ago I saw a story that touched me beyond what words can express. It was a YouTube video of little Miss Kelsey Briggs. After hearing her heartbreaking story and the story of those who had tried to save her I realized I felt a need to get involved. I found I could no longer turn my head and ignore the growing epidemic of child abuse in our country, and especially in my own community. I became involved in Kelsey's Purpose, a group started by Kelsey's paternal Grandmother in hopes of preventing what happened to Kelsey from happening to other children. From there I started Kelsey's Milwaukee Hugs. I collect new teddy bears and donate them to children in crisis situations. Current bear recipients are the Milwaukee Fire Department, and the Child Protection Center, as well as individual children whose stories reach my ears and my heart. I am by no means a professional in the area of child abuse, though I believe myself slightly educated-an advocate for children. My eyes are now open-and watching. Just a Mom hoping to make a difference in my community.
